Two Florida laws your Tampa buyers answer to

Florida Information Protection Act of 2014 (Fla. Stat. § 501.171)

After a breach, companies must notify affected Florida residents within 30 days of discovering it. Breaches affecting more than 500 residents must also be reported to a state regulator.

Florida Digital Bill of Rights (Fla. Stat. § 501.701 et seq.)

A comprehensive consumer privacy law, in effect since July 1, 2024. It applies to companies that meet its size or data-volume thresholds.

Why it matters for outreach: companies that meet the thresholds of the Florida Digital Bill of Rights have obligations a general security pitch never mentions. Asking whether they apply is a specific, local way to start.

The competition for Tampa attention

The metro has 1,875 computer systems design and related firms, 678 of them classified as computer systems design. Not all of them sell what you sell, but many are reaching out to the same IT managers.

What wins: a sector-specific opener. A health care buyer should hear a problem from their own work in the first sentence.
