Two California laws your Los Angeles buyers answer to

California breach notification law (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.80 et seq.; medical information: Cal. Health & Safety Code § 1280.15)

After a breach, companies must notify affected California residents within 30 calendar days of discovering it. Breaches affecting more than 500 residents must also be reported to the Attorney General.

California Consumer Privacy Act (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.100 et seq.)

A comprehensive consumer privacy law, in effect since January 1, 2020. It applies to companies that meet its size or data-volume thresholds.

Why it matters for outreach: companies that meet the thresholds of the California Consumer Privacy Act have obligations a general security pitch never mentions. Asking whether they apply is a specific, local way to start.

Who you’re up against

The metro has 7,006 computer systems design and related firms, 2,759 of them classified as computer systems design. Not all of them sell what you sell, but many are reaching out to the same IT managers.

What wins: specificity. Lead with one sector and one problem the buyer recognizes, not a list of services.
